Anxiety Therapy

Is Anxiety Impacting Your Ability To Function?

a man thinking

Have you been feeling anxious and on edge lately?

Do you suffer from panic attacks, nightmares, and intrusive thoughts?

Are you constantly worried about what others think of you?

Maybe you struggle to relax because you’re always dreading that the worst is about to happen. Perhaps you’re dealing with performance anxiety related to work, sports, music, or another discipline. Or maybe your anxiety stems from unresolved trauma—painful past experiences have impacted your ability to feel safe in your own shoes. You might worry that other people will betray you and that past hurts will repeat themselves in the present. For the first time, perhaps you’re thinking it’s time to see an anxiety therapist.

Chronic Anxiety Makes It Hard To Live A Structured And Fulfilling Life

When you’re living with anxiety, every day can feel like an uphill climb. Your symptoms might make it incredibly hard to function at work or live a structured and organized daily life. Breathing can become difficult, nervous episodes can turn into full-blown panic attacks, and feelings of hypervigilance can grow so overwhelming that everywhere you go feels unsafe.

What’s more, perhaps you’ve tried therapy in the past, but it didn’t provide the relief you were looking for. You may have gained some surface-level skills, but your therapist may not have helped you do the deeper work of healing anxiety in your mind, body, and spirit.

If this is the case, I encourage you to connect with me. Because of my holistic, somatically-oriented approach to anxiety treatment, I believe that I can offer a deeper level of understanding and a more comprehensive level of care. Anxiety may be debilitating, but with the right help and support, it doesn’t have to stand in your way anymore.

We Live In A Stressful Culture Where Anxiety Is The Norm

Anxiety is more than just a mental health condition—for many people today, it’s the baseline state of existence. After all, we live in a society where there is immense pressure to be successful, popular, and beautiful. There’s pressure to perform well in school, level up in the workplace, and stay on top of all the latest fads and trends on the internet.

Little wonder, then, that nearly 20 percent of people in the United States suffer from chronic anxiety.* Although anxiety is a normal response to stressful or dangerous situations, it becomes a problem when it starts to get out of control and hold people back from optimal functioning. When this happens, it’s usually a sign that it’s best to seek counseling.

On Your Own, Working Through Anxiety Is Harder Than It May Seem

Many people try to overcome anxiety alone, thinking that they can just white-knuckle their way through or “grin and bear it.” But this is always easier said than done. After all, the roots of anxiety generally run very deep. Since anxiety often stems from unresolved trauma and difficult life experiences, healing from anxiety usually means reprocessing these experiences in a professional context.

Additionally, anxiety is often as rooted in the body as it is in the mind, so standard talk therapy is limited in its ability to treat anxiety. Experiencing deeper healing requires engaging with the whole person, not just the mental side of their wellbeing.

Therapy Can Help You Find Relief From Anxiety And Live A More Stress-Free Life

My approach is based on an eclectic range of strategies and modalities, some of which are listed below:

  • Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)—Anxiety is often rooted in unresolved trauma. EMDR therapy seeks to help you reprocess your trauma so that you can reduce your level of emotional overwhelm and free yourself from the pain of the past.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)—The goal of CBT is to reframe the negative thoughts and beliefs that are fueling your anxiety so that you can view yourself in a more positive and empowering light.

  • Clinical Hypnosis—Traditional therapy approaches usually only engage the conscious mind. With clinical hypnosis, you will enter a trancelike state where you can access the deeper, subconscious parts of the mind while still having full control over your mental faculties.

Whether your anxiety has been there your entire life or it’s the result of a recent traumatic experience, it’s important to remember that anxiety is highly treatable. Once you understand where your stress is coming from and have the tools to mitigate it effectively, it’s possible to live a life that is filled with joy, confidence, and empowerment.

Trying to overcome anxiety can feel like trying to function in chaos. You might feel so overwhelmed that you don’t even know where to start. Thankfully, therapy gives you a chance to unwind, refocus, and figure out how to prioritize behaviors that lead to the outcome you’re looking for. You’ll have the opportunity to think more deeply about the kind of life you want to live and learn to overcome the roadblocks that are holding you back from it.

As a licensed anxiety counselor, I provide treatment for people struggling with various anxiety disorders, including panic attacks, phobias, and social anxiety. I have lots of experience helping people who have previously been in therapy but haven’t found the relief that they need. I know a lot of conventional approaches lack the depth to adequately treat anxiety, and that’s why I try to do things differently.

What To Expect In Anxiety Counseling Sessions

I generally start therapy by delving into your history with anxiety and exploring the context of your current struggles. We’ll look at how anxiety is impacting your everyday functioning and develop somatic skills for reducing your stress levels. You’ll learn mindfulness skills like breathwork and meditation as well as executive functioning skills for staying organized and on task with your goals. You’ll also learn to cultivate a deeper sense of spiritual connection, allowing you to respond to life from a more mindful and grounded place.

You May Have Some Questions About
Anxiety Counseling…

What if anxiety therapy costs too much?

Finances are important, but so is your mental health. Therapy is a short-term investment that can lead to lifelong improvement. It can set you up for success by helping you boost your confidence and giving you the skills to manage anxiety on your own, ensuring that you don’t have to keep spending money on therapy years down the road.

I’ve already tried therapy and it didn’t work. How will this be different?

I understand your skepticism, especially if therapists you saw in the past didn’t give you the support you needed. Luckily, I’ve developed a track record of successfully treating anxiety in my clients, especially those who haven’t found relief through treatment before. That’s because I incorporate a lot of body-based approaches into my work and utilize nonverbal methods like EMDR and Clinical Hypnosis, which allow for fuller healing than purely cognitive approaches.

How long will anxiety counseling take?

It largely depends on what your goals for treatment are. If you want to experience short-term relief and learn some practical coping skills, you may only need a few sessions. But if you’re interested in long-term healing, you’re welcome to pursue therapy for as long as you feel comfortable. Either way, I encourage you to be patient with yourself and understand that everyone heals at their own pace.
